I found a snow plant (Sarcodes sanguinea) near Bassi Falls. It lacks chlorophyll and cannot produce it's own food. It taps into the mycorrhizal network and takes nutrients from conifers nearby. Does that make it a parasite to the fungi, the trees, or both?
The Pacific Northwest is a lot better than I knew.
